Rappahannock Regional Jail Release Paths
Rappahannock Regional Jail, often shortened to RRJ, is the adult jail custodian for many King George cases. The King George County Sheriff may make the arrest or transport the person, and a King George court may issue the commitment. RRJ still creates the jail booking and release entries. That split matters when a family member seeks the actual time someone left the jail. The Sheriff records route is best for Sheriff-created arrest, incident, or transport records. RRJ Intake and Inmate Records are the first sources for the jail door-out time, release type, authority, and destination.
A release from RRJ does not always mean unrestricted return to the community. Bond, recognizance, dismissal, time served, or completion of a local sentence may produce a community release. The court can also approve electronic incarceration or another community-corrections placement. A transfer to the Virginia Department of Corrections, another jail, a hospital, the U.S. Marshals Service, or immigration custody ends the RRJ stay while custody continues. Confirm Rappahannock Regional Jail Releases
The official RRJ JailTracker roster is a current-custody tool. Its public setup shows active offenders only. Released search controls and the release-date column are suppressed. Finding a person there supports present public display at the time checked. Failing to find the person proves only that the person is not shown as active. It does not prove a community release, identify a destination, or supply an exit time.
Use a short, source-by-source check instead. Keep the exact spelling, another lawful identifier, the approximate booking date, the King George case number if known, and the time each source was checked.
- Check the RRJ roster to see whether the person still appears in active custody.
- Search Virginia Jail VINE for a reported RRJ custody event. Treat no match as unresolved.

Rappahannock Regional Jail Release Records
Ask for existing records instead of asking staff to research why a person was released. A focused request identifies the full recorded name, a second identifier, and the booking or intake date or narrow date range. It can seek the booking or commitment record, release log or sheet with actual date and time, release type or authority, recorded destination or receiving agency, and the routine booking photograph. Electronic copies and a cost estimate may be requested. No flat RRJ release-record fee was published in the reviewed sources.

For an immediate current-custody question, call the RRJ main line at 540-288-5245 and use Intake extension 201. RRJ's published policy says staff do not give release dates by phone. The records request is therefore the dependable route for a historical exit time. If an exemption is cited, ask for its statutory basis and any segregable, nonexempt part of the record. The King George Sheriff FOIA route remains useful for Sheriff-created records, but it should not replace a direct request to the jail custodian.

Note: The jail's release sheet is stronger evidence of actual exit time than a court order or a roster disappearance alone.
About Rappahannock Regional Jail
RRJ is operated by the Rappahannock Area Jail Authority. It serves King George, Stafford, and Spotsylvania counties plus Fredericksburg. The physical site is in Stafford, while the mailing address uses Fredericksburg. Intake handles booking, scheduled release, bonding, and transfers. Inmate Records enters charges, bonds, and court dates, computes qualifying local release dates, sends jail credits to VADOC, and arranges transport. The main building opened in June 2000 after construction began in May 1998. Its original 264,000 square feet were joined by a 110,335-square-foot expansion that opened in November 2008. RRJ's page reports a total of 374,335 square feet and maximum population of 2,013. It also reports about 300 employees, an average daily population above 1,000, and a $46 million operating budget, though the page does not date those last figures. They should be read as page-reported context, not as a current audit.

Rappahannock Regional Jail Release Timing
RRJ gives one precise release time with a narrow scope. A time-served inmate is released at 8:00 a.m. on the sentence-completion date. That statement does not set the time for bond, court-order, transfer, medical, immigration, or other release classes. Bonding is available seven days a week, and its pace depends on the required parties and papers. Before bond release, RRJ checks VCIN and NCIC for detainers. A detainer is an order or notice that another authority wants custody. If one remains, the King George matter can end without a community release.
RRJ also returns held personal property at a scheduled community release. Transfer property follows another route. Qualifying religious items and current-case legal papers may travel, while other property can be held for 30 days under a signed third-party disposition. Property pickup and release-clothing exchanges are listed Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. Mailing must be arranged through Property extension 515, and postage is set by the mailroom and paid by money order. Do not apply the transfer-property rule to every ordinary discharge.

RRJ Release and ICE Transfers
RRJ Intake states that suspected unauthorized-immigration information may be referred to ICE for investigation and possible deportation. This fact supports an ICE check only when the person's record gives a sound reason to make it. It does not prove an ICE contract, and it does not mean every roster disappearance is an immigration transfer. The RRJ record should identify the legal authority and receiving destination when maintained.
When an individual record points to immigration custody, search the ICE Online Detainee Locator by A-number and country of birth or by exact biographical data. A result concerns ICE custody. A failure to find the person can reflect recent processing, transfer, discretionary omission, or the locator's limited historical reach. A U.S. Marshals transfer is different again. USMS has no general public former-prisoner locator, so the federal court docket and actual holding facility become the practical evidence.
Note: Describe the event as release from RRJ and separately name the receiving authority whenever the official record supplies that destination.
King George RRJ Release Geography
King George has no verified stand-alone adult county jail. RRJ is regional and physically sits in Stafford. That local fact changes where a released-person search begins, who holds the booking photo, and which office can document the door-out event. King George courts still explain the legal disposition. The Sheriff still maintains its own arrest and transport records. Yet RRJ remains the jail authority for its booking and exit records.
The same geography prevents a second common mistake. Prince George County, home to federal facilities in the Petersburg area, is not King George County. No BOP institution, ICE detention center, or independent U.S. Marshals detention site was identified in King George. When RRJ transfers a person, follow the named receiving agency rather than a place-name guess. For a state-responsible sentence, use the VADOC locator and state records.
