What King George Jail VINE Covers
The public local-jail service is Virginia Jail VINE, reached through Virginia's VINELink portal. It covers Virginia local and regional jails, including Rappahannock Regional Jail. RRJ is the adult jail that serves King George County, despite its Stafford address. Anyone may search and register anonymously. The service is free and focuses on custody status and event notification.
VINE is not a permanent archive of every former detainee. It reports information supplied by participating custodians. A current RRJ record can help identify the person and facility. A later release or custody-change event can show what RRJ reported, while a no-match result remains inconclusive. Spelling, delay, transfer, coverage, or the end of notification after release can all affect what appears.
State-prison notification is separate in Virginia. VADOC uses NAAVI for eligible victims and qualifying immediate family, and it is not connected to local Jail VINE. If the person is still in a reportable local custody status, select that exact record before registering for notices. A name-only match is weak evidence. A transfer, escape, or death event must not be summarized as community release. Likewise, a release event can coexist with probation, parole, post-release supervision, another warrant, or a receiving authority. Ask RRJ for the maintained release record when the exact time, legal authority, or destination matters.
Note: Quote the event label exactly and retain the check time because VINE, RRJ records, and court systems document different parts of custody change.
Register King George VINE Alerts
Registration attaches notification to one selected record. It is not a general King George County release feed. Choose the exact RRJ detainee first, then use the methods the live service offers. The available set can include telephone, text, email, TTY, or app. Review the event types before confirming so the alert matches the custody change being followed.
- Select the matched RRJ person and choose “Notify Me” or the status-notification option shown.
- Choose an offered delivery method and enter the contact details required for that channel.
- For telephone notification, create the requested PIN. Treat it as private acknowledgment data, not as a search credential.
- Review the person, facility, event type, and contact method, then confirm the enrollment.
- When an automated telephone call arrives, enter the PIN to acknowledge receipt and stop repeat calls.
Do not state that email or text requires the telephone PIN unless the current interface explicitly says so. Virginia VINE's information line is 800-467-4943, and its TTY number is 866-847-1298. Enrollment may stop after release, which is another reason the service cannot be used as lasting released-person history.
Save the registration details privately and check them after any custody handoff. If the person moves from RRJ into VADOC, local enrollment does not automatically follow. A later return to a local jail may require another Jail VINE registration.
King George Has Three Alert Layers
King George has a distinct local notification path beyond anonymous Jail VINE. RRJ directs eligible victims or witnesses who seek formal release-date notice to the King George Victim/Witness Coordinator at 540-775-4442. The coordinator sends the application to RRJ. That request-based route can overlap with public VINE enrollment, but the two are not identical.
The second layer is Virginia Jail VINE for RRJ custody. It is open to anyone and supports anonymous search and registration. The handoff is the key Virginia-specific detail. A local subscriber should not assume VINE will keep tracking the person after VADOC receives custody. Eligible users must contact the state process and register again.
The local Victim/Witness application also should not be described as a substitute for public VINE. It is a formal, case-linked notice route for eligible participants, while Jail VINE permits anonymous public enrollment for one RRJ record. Keep the coordinator's application confirmation with the case file. If the person later moves into state custody, ask VADOC Victim Services whether NAAVI eligibility applies and complete that separate process. A return to local jail custody may require a new Jail VINE registration because notification does not travel automatically in either direction.
Confirm King George VINE Events
VINE proves that the reporting agency supplied an event to the notification service. RRJ's own release sheet is stronger evidence of the physical event because it can record actual date, time, authority, type, and destination. RRJ Intake handles scheduled releases, bonds, and transfers, while Inmate Records maintains the jail record. Ask the jail when precise proof is needed.
RRJ's main number is 540-288-5245 and Intake is extension 201. The jail says it does not give release dates by phone, so use a reasonably specific records request for historical details. Check the King George court for the legal action that may explain bond, dismissal, sentence, or transfer. General District Court and Circuit Court maintain different dockets. The court order does not replace RRJ's final exit timestamp, and the RRJ event does not replace the court's disposition. Use both when the legal basis and physical custody change must be reconciled.
King George VINE Coverage Limits
VINE does not cover every custody system. Search the VADOC Inmate and Supervisee Locator when state custody or community supervision is possible. An institution, hospital, CCAP, local-jail-under-VADOC-authority, or district-office result has a different meaning. The public locator is updated daily but may be inaccurate or outdated, and it is not a complete archive of every fully discharged person.
For federal imprisonment, use the BOP Inmate Locator. A former federal record can show “Released” and a BOP-specific release date, but that does not exclude state, local, or ICE custody. For immigration detention, use ICE ODLS; it is not a permanent release archive. USMS has no general former-prisoner locator equivalent to BOP.
One more distinction matters. The Virginia State Police registry applies only to people with a qualifying registration duty. A registry record concerns identity and compliance, not every arrest and not the RRJ release date. Registry notifications are separate from jail custody-event enrollment.
